Mortgage rates fell this week to their lowest levels in seven months. The average rate on 30-year mortgages fell to 5.58 percent, down from 5.66 percent last week, according to Freddie Mac, the mortgage giant. This week's rate was the lowest since the week of July 11, when it was 5.52 percent.
